CPI leader Binoy Viswam calls for unity amid tensions with CPI(M)

CPI leader Binoy Viswam has called for unity amid tensions with the CPI(M) over the Deputy Leader of the Opposition position in the State Assembly. Speaking to the media in Delhi, he emphasized that the CPI will not take any actions that would weaken the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Viswam expressed confidence that the CPI will secure the rightful post, stating that the party never sought a specific post but a culture of mutual respect within the LDF.

The party's recent defeat has led to introspection and a realization of necessary corrections. Viswam addressed comments from CPI(M) members, noting that only CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby and State secretary M.V. Govindan made such remarks. He reiterated that both parties recognize the importance of Left unity at this critical juncture, emphasizing that the LDF is a collective of parties with similar aims and no hierarchical relationship.

Accusing the Modi government of attempting to undermine the CPI's rally, Viswam noted that more participants joined the event than originally planned, as the Indian Railways canceled a special train chartered for CPI workers. Despite the challenges, Viswam affirmed that the CPI remains the largest Left party nationally, with widespread activity across the country, and warned that the Modi government is not invincible, as demonstrated by its concessions to student protests led by the Janata Party.
