Corruption whistleblowers in Iraq to be given financial reward

The Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi has announced the activation of a law that will provide financial rewards to whistleblowers who report corruption, according to a statement from his office. The initiative is part of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign that has resulted in the recovery of over $1 billion through raids on the Green Zone and the arrest of several high-ranking officials.

The government spokesperson, Haider Al Aboudi, reported that more than 26,000 corruption reports have been submitted to Iraq's Integrity Commission. During a recent meeting, Al Zaidi directed the strengthening of border crossing monitoring and the exposure of corrupt individuals as part of the campaign.

In early July, Al Zaidi had previously stated that a substantial financial reward would be provided to informants. Since assuming office in May, he has prioritized high-profile arrests and asset seizures targeting senior officials in sectors such as oil, electricity, and other ministries. The government has portrayed the campaign as a test of state authority, particularly in areas historically dominated by political parties and powerful economic networks.
