CIIG 6th Insurance Excellence Awards highlights need to protect professional standards

The Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG) recently concluded its sixth Insurance Excellence Awards, held on August 29, 2026, at the Labadi Beach Hotel. The ceremony recognized outstanding individuals and organizations for their professional achievements within Ghana's insurance sector. CIIG President Solomon Lartey emphasized the need for regulators and the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) to adopt stringent measures to uphold the integrity of the insurance profession.

Lartey specifically urged GIA to discourage participation in award schemes that do not adhere to professional and ethical standards, maintaining that safeguarding the credibility of such platforms is a shared responsibility. He also called on the National Insurance Commission (NIC) to enforce regulations against entities misusing insurance-related titles and designations without proper regulatory approval.

The CIIG President highlighted that Ghana's insurance laws provide clear guidelines on the proper use of such terminology to maintain the industry's credibility, public trust, and overall reputation. The event, themed "Professionalism Rooted in Integrity: Building a Trusted Insurance Future," celebrated excellence across various insurance sectors, including underwriting, claims management, employee development, corporate social responsibility, pensions, health insurance, life insurance, general insurance, broking, and reinsurance.

Notable recipients included Bernard Akyin-Arkoh as Insurance Professional of the Year 2025, Paa Kwesi Koranteng as Young Insurance Professional of the Year, and Barbara Odoi as Professional Underwriter of the Year, among others in different categories.
