CarPlay keeps getting better with three recent exciting app updates

CarPlay is set to receive three significant app updates in August, enhancing the iPhone car infotainment system ahead of the iOS 27 software launch in September. MLB's baseball app received an update to improve the in-car experience, allowing fans to browse live and upcoming games, select a matchup, and choose their preferred team's radio feed. Scores and key game details will also be displayed on CarPlay during broadcasts, with the hide-scores setting respected for those who prefer to avoid spoilers.

Meta AI for iPhone, available as part of the Meta AI app, has joined three other third-party chatbot apps that work with CarPlay. However, Meta AI on CarPlay appears to be in limited testing at the moment. This development highlights the benefits of CarPlay's integration of existing iPhone apps within vehicles, offering a level of AI chatbot choice that built-in infotainment systems typically lack.

Another notable addition to CarPlay is the Storm Radar app from The Weather Channel. The app features a map of the user's location, with options to toggle between satellite view and the default map background. Data layers include radar, clouds, and precipitation, while navigation provides current weather conditions and expected weather at the user's destination. CarPlay support includes automatic rerouting and weather alerts that refresh as you drive, ensuring a seamless and informative in-car experience.

With the upcoming iOS 27 update, CarPlay will be upgraded for all iPhone users, automatically adding new features to the system. In the meantime, Volvo has introduced Spatial Audio through CarPlay for Apple Music and Apple Podcasts in three of its SUV models, bringing Dolby Atmos sound support to drivers. Additionally, Pioneer has released an aftermarket head unit that offers Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio through CarPlay, demonstrating the versatility of CarPlay in enhancing the driving experience.
