Bangladesh orders more Boeing aircraft beyond earlier commitment

Doha, Qatar has witnessed an intensification of the strategic alliance between Boeing and Qatar Airways, as the two entities unveil a detailed plan for sustainable progress and technological progress, confirmed an official. Shahab Matin, Boeing's Managing Director of Commercial Marketing for the Middle East and Africa, declared that the aerospace giant remains firmly dedicated to supporting Qatar's Vision 2030 through the provision of high-standard aircraft and services that emphasize operational efficiency.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Matin described the partnership as a multi-pronged strategy aimed at fostering responsible industry growth while enhancing Qatar's economic diversification and global competitiveness. He elaborated on the importance of environmental sustainability, stating that fleet renewal and the adoption of modern technology are crucial in this endeavor.

Notably, the 787 Dreamliner is believed to achieve roughly 25 percent less fuel consumption and emissions than the models it replaces, and the forthcoming 777-9 is anticipated to offer another 20 percent reduction. In addition to the hardware, the national carrier is employing Boeing's digital tools to optimize flight routes, thereby cutting fuel use and emissions by an estimated 10 percent.

The commitment to cleaner skies also includes a collective determination to scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with the partnership aiming to cut lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel. This effort is bolstered by a decade-long research collaboration between Boeing and the Qatar Computing Research Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, where they have developed machine learning and computer vision technologies to enhance airplane landings.

Matin highlighted that innovation and talent development are at the core of Boeing's enduring presence in Doha. The recent Machine Learning and Data Analytics Symposium (MLDAS), held on February 8-9, 2026, demonstrated this commitment by gathering an international team of AI researchers from the UK, US, Canada, and the Middle East.

Matin emphasized that by concentrating on safe and sustainable artificial intelligence, the partnership is not only improving maintenance processes via systems like Airplane Health Management but also nurturing a local pool of technical expertise. As Qatar solidifies its position as a premier international aviation hub, Boeing reaffirms its role as a principal partner in ensuring that this growth is both secure and sustainable.
