Awutu-Senya District Assembly organises clean-up ahead of Awubia Festival

Residents of Awutu Bereku in the Awutu-Senya District recently engaged in an extensive clean-up effort in preparation for the annual Awubia Festival. The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Awutu-Senya District Assembly, the local Traditional Council, and Zoomlion Ghana, aimed to eradicate litter and contribute to the nationwide sanitation drive inspired by President John Dramani Mahama's call for citizens to uphold clean environments, curb mosquito breeding, and prevent the spread of diseases.

Under the leadership of District Chief Executive Mr. Eghan Kalala Nyamekye and District Coordinating Director Mr. Samuel Antwi-Boasiako, residents diligently cleaned various public spaces, including the local market, durbar grounds, traditional council area, schools, and town roads. Their efforts extended to desilting gutters and removing refuse from different areas of the township.

Following the clean-up, participants expressed their desire to see the campaign expanded to other communities within the district. They also emphasized the need for stricter adherence to sanitation by-laws, suggesting that the apprehension and prosecution of offenders would act as a deterrent to discourage future violations. Additionally, the participants advocated for regular organization of such clean-up exercises to complement the District Assembly's ongoing efforts to maintain a hygienic environment.
