Apple may change ’Lake Ontario’ to ’Lake America’ soon after talk with Trump, U.S. Interior Secretary says

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump has discussed the possibility of renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America with Apple. The company may soon update its maps to reflect the change, according to Burgum, who made the remarks on Fox Business’ Mornings with Maria program. Trump's decision stems from a trade dispute with Canada that has led to the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on billions of dollars in goods.

Trump's executive order concerning the name change pertains to the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which establishes guidelines for official U.S. maps, but does not affect Canadian naming conventions or how the lake is referred to internationally. Google Maps has already changed the lake's name to Lake America for U.S. users, as stated in a Google announcement.
