Anthropic signs $35 billion cloud deal with Nvidia-backed Lambda, WSJ reports

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence developer, has reached a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The source for this information includes individuals familiar with the deal.

Hut 8, a bitcoin miner and data-center developer, is constructing the data center in Nueces County, Texas, as reported by the WSJ. Nvidia and Hut 8 signed a deal several weeks ago to secure the necessary capacity, according to the report.

Lambda will utilize the data center to install chips purchased from Nvidia, which is also an investor in Lambda, the report adds. The exact amount that Lambda will pay Nvidia for accessing the data-center space has not been disclosed.

Anthropic has been focusing on signing cloud-capacity deals due to a supply shortage earlier this year, which occurred as its products gained popularity. Earlier this month, Anthropic signed a $45 billion deal with Nscale, another Nvidia-backed cloud provider, as reported by Bloomberg in August.
