Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has informed that a temporary disruption in water supply will affect several communities in Western Accra. These communities include Mallam, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Mataheko, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Dansoman Township, Chorkor and their surrounding areas. The interruption is due to damage to a major transmission pipeline that supplies water to the aforementioned areas.
According to GWL, the damage occurred during excavation works by AWERCO Construction Ltd for constructing underground storm drains between Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction. The excavation resulted in the pipeline bursting, causing water to flood the trench and obstruct access to the damaged section.
GWL's engineers and technical teams are working tirelessly to rectify the situation. Currently, they are engaged in dewatering the trench to access the affected part of the pipeline. GWL has also initiated preparatory works at one end of the damaged pipeline as the dewatering process continues.
The company has issued an apology to affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the water supply interruption. GWL assures that every effort is being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible. Further updates on the repair work progress and the restoration of water supply will be communicated through GWL's official channels.
