‘Abhorrently casteist’: Congress to protest FIR against Rahul over Haldwani remarks

On Monday evening, Congress workers plan to stage nationwide protests against the FIR filed against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of casteist remarks during a "purification" ritual at a rally in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand Police registered the case a day after Gandhi demanded prosecution of BJP workers for the same event.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal expressed outrage, stating that the BJP is defending "abhorrently casteist behaviour" and attacking the Constitution's values of social justice. Venugopal vowed that the Congress will not rest until those responsible for the insult to former Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge are punished and the FIR against Gandhi is dismissed.
