€60,000 Upgrade Planned for Hurchillo Church Square

The city council of Orihuela has put out tenders for €59,966 worth of improvements to Hurchillo Church Square, a popular public space in the village. The two-month project aims to enhance accessibility, pedestrian safety and the overall appearance of the area. Plans include widening and resurfacing parts of the pavement, installing ramps and tactile paving at crossings, and removing steps and other obstacles.

The paving in front of the church will be renewed to create a continuous pedestrian route, and the square's asphalt will receive a fresh layer after not being renovated in several years. Public lighting will also be upgraded, with a lamp post moved and existing lights replaced with energy-efficient LED technology, along with a spotlight installed to highlight the church's façade.

The project will also reorganise waste-container areas and create a designated recycling point beside the CV-923. Drainage improvements, including a new stormwater drain and a damaged kerbing section, will also be carried out. Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde stated that the project had been repeatedly requested by residents, noting that the Church Square is the heart of Hurchillo, where much of the village's daily activity and commerce is concentrated.

Valverde added that the scheme would address longstanding concerns while making the area safer, more accessible and more attractive for residents and visitors who frequent the square.
