Chinese State Councilor Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on the 31st (local time) to reaffirm their willingness to expand cooperation in energy and artificial intelligence (AI). However, no specific agreements or progress were reported regarding the large-scale gas pipeline project 'Siberia's Power-2'.

According to China's state news agency Xinhua, Xi Jinping stated at the SCO summit that both countries agreed to elevate the quality and level of their relations, deepening cooperation in various fields. The two leaders met for the second time this year following Putin's visit to China in May. Putin emphasized that Russia-China's comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation serve as a model for bilateral relations, promising to expand trade, energy, industrial, transportation, and scientific and technological cooperation.

He cited the launch of China's first regular container ship via the Northern Sea Route and a 34% increase in agricultural trade between the two countries as successes. Xi Jinping highlighted that digital innovation, including artificial intelligence, is opening new opportunities for economic development in both nations, and pledged to strengthen cooperation with Russia and other SCO members.

Putin also vowed to enhance cooperation with China at various international forums such as the UN, BRICS, and G20. The ongoing war in Ukraine was not a major topic of discussion, according to reports. No progress was made on the 'Siberia's Power-2' project, which aims to transport 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia through Mongolia to China annually.

However, disagreements over supply prices and investment conditions have prolonged negotiations, and no specific progress was reported from the previous summit.
