Woman’s remains found in shocking condition; live-in partner booked, her family seeks justice

In a shocking discovery, the partially consumed remains of a 27-year-old woman were found 13 days after she vanished from her parental home in a Jalandhar village, allegedly with her live-in partner, raising questions about her death. Her maternal aunt filed a complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR at the Mehatpur police station under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation commenced, and the body was recovered on Thursday, though it was already severely decomposed.

The woman, a mother of three aged 5 to 10 years, lost her husband to illness four years prior. Her family encouraged her to rebuild her life, leading her to a relationship and employment as a domestic worker in Chandigarh, where her partner was also employed. After leaving home for Chandigarh with her partner, the family lost contact with them, giving rise to concerns when they found her remains on August 28.

The family's anguish is evident as they demanded justice for their daughter and action against those responsible. The women's parents alleged underlying issues in their daughter's relationship, emphasizing the need for accountability. The Pendu Mazdoor Union Punjab president, Tarsem Peter, called for stringent action against those found culpable, advocating for a fast-track trial to expedite justice for the victim's family, who are desperately poor.
