Woman injured in fatal police pursuit crash dies

A 62-year-old woman, who was critically injured in a road traffic incident on Warwick Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, has sadly died. The incident occurred on Monday when her Ford Puma collided with a black Audi A3 that was being pursued by Warwickshire Police. The driver of the Audi, a 19-year-old man, died at the scene. The police pursuit began on Birmingham Road around 17:30 BST when officers tried to stop the Audi but the driver refused to pull over.

The Ford driver, initially reported to be in her 70s, was taken to the hospital along with another woman, a passenger in the Ford, who also suffered serious injuries. A third person from the Ford had minor injuries. The Audi made off in the direction of the A46 before returning towards Stratford on the A439, causing damage to several other vehicles.

The crash site remained closed for a period on both Monday and Tuesday. Warwickshire Police referred the crash to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to a death following police contact. The IOPC is investigating the incident and has asked for any footage of the Audi or the pursuit to be reported to them.
