[UPDATED] Anwar: Billions seized from illegal activities to fund education, healthcare

PUTRAJAYA - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declared that billions of ringgit seized from illegal activities through legal proceedings and court decisions will be returned to the people, focusing on education and healthcare. The move comes as part of the government's commitment to ensuring recovered assets benefit the public.

During his National Day Eve address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Anwar emphasized that the economic growth and wealth obtained must translate into tangible benefits for the people, and should not remain in the hands of those responsible for unlawful activities. He stressed the importance of accountability for corruption, abuse of power, and other wrongdoing, which resulted in billions of ringgit in losses.

Anwar outlined immediate measures to ease cost-of-living pressures, support businesses, and strengthen public services, as well as the 2027 Budget tabling. He highlighted the significance of independence and the need for wealth to be returned to the people, ensuring that every Malaysian has access to opportunities and prosperity, regardless of their ethnic background.
