Union Minister & North Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal Inaugurates City's 26th Suvidha Kendra In Dahisar's Sawarpada

Mumbai's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, virtually opened the city's 26th Suvidha Centre in Dahisar (E) on Sunday. This facility aims to deliver clean toilets, showers, laundry services, and purified drinking water to residents. Located in Dahisar (E)'s Sawarpada, the centre was constructed using corporate social responsibility funds in a public-private partnership, with participation from Hindustan Unilever Ltd, HSBC India, JSW Foundation, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

It is equipped with 29 toilet seats, six laundry machines, and a water purification system. The cost of unlimited toilet access for a family of five is Rs 150 per month, bottled water is available at Rs 1 per litre, and a 7kg laundry load costs Rs 70. The Suvidha Centre is designed using sustainable materials, such as green steel and cement, a rooftop solar system, and greywater recycling, and is built 3 feet above ground for flood resilience.

Mumbai currently has 25 such centres, serving six lakh people annually and saving Rs 33,500 crore per year. Goyal, during the ceremony, pledged to construct 100 more Suvidha Centres if required, emphasizing that every person in North Mumbai should have access to these modern, clean facilities. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2014 Independence Day speech, which highlighted the importance of clean toilets, leading to the construction of over 12 crore toilets in the country.

Goyal also mentioned that over 1,500 people daily utilize the existing Suvidha Centre in North Mumbai, and more should be built, preferably managed by women self-help groups. The minister urged the youth to emulate Patwai village in Rampur, where a group successfully cleaned up the area and improved water bodies, and encouraged them to form teams to clean their localities.
