Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed growing concern over the increasing death toll following a munitions depot explosion near the capital, Kyiv. As of now, the death count has risen to 38 with 4 people still missing. President Zelensky announced this on social media, detailing the ongoing efforts to remove debris from the site and search for additional victims.

The incident occurred in the village of Myla, about five kilometers west of Kyiv. According to Zelensky, 20 people were injured, including two children. The previous day, the death toll was reported at 37 with over 40 injuries. Rescue teams have managed to extinguish most of the fires, and explosive experts are at work to locate dispersed munitions.

The contaminated area is large, and Russia is believed to have attacked the depot, which stored grenades and mines, on Friday. It was only confirmed on Saturday that the ammunition dump was located within a residential area, contradicting Ukrainian regulations. Most victims were residents of a nursing home. President Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Zelensky emphasized the need for stronger protection against Russian terror, stating that Russia launched nearly 2,000 attack drones, over 1,600 bombs, and 31 different types of rockets, including North Korean ballistic missiles, against Ukrainian civilians in the past week. Around the clock attacks were reported in both front-line and border regions.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced an attack on a facility in Kyiv where drone components and explosives were stored. These claims cannot be independently verified. Russian forces also announced preparation for massive strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, in response to Ukraine's attacks on oil refineries, fuel depots, and civilian objects.

Earlier, Zelensky had pledged to launch 1,000 drones daily against Russia, a significant increase from the usual 300. Russia has been waging an invasion against Ukraine for over four and a half years. Kyiv has been defending itself with Western support.
