UAE sends 83 tonnes of aid to Nepal to boost relief efforts after deadly floods

The United Arab Emirates has dispatched a cargo plane carrying 83 tonnes of crucial aid supplies to Nepal, following devastating flash floods that have wreaked havoc at the Nepal-Tibet border. The humanitarian assistance, coordinated by the UAE Aid Agency and the UAE embassy in Nepal, is part of a $10 million aid package aimed at alleviating the suffering of communities impacted by the disaster.

As of Sunday, Nepalese authorities have confirmed that at least 734 people have lost their lives, while 2,498 are missing, and 8,186 have been rescued. Meanwhile, 20,000 rescue workers from security forces have been mobilized to aid in the relief efforts. Despite the Herculean rescue operations, heavy rains and the looming risk of additional floods due to overflowing lakes have disrupted rescue activities intermittently.

The catastrophe is believed to have been triggered by the collapse of a glacier and a landslide on the Langtang Lirung peak, situated in the Himalayas approximately 15km away from the flood-affected zone.
