Tshepo Tshite wins Hollywoodbets Durban 10K with spectacular late surge

Tshepo Tshite secured an impressive victory at the Hollywoodbets Durban 10K, finishing the race in 28:18 after a spectacular late surge. The South African athlete had originally been behind Kenyan runner Stephen Kangethe, who led the pack into Kingsmead Stadium. However, Tshite, who is known for his speed as a 1500m athlete, executed a powerful final kick to overtake Kangethe by three seconds, claiming the win.

This victory solidifies Tshite's growing reputation as a strong contender in the 10km race. The win also highlights Tshite's potential at the longer distance, as he previously finished third in the Absa Run Your City Gqeberha 10K in March. He emphasized the importance of adapting to the different track and road conditions in his post-race interview.

In addition to his success in the men's race, Kabelo Mulaudzi secured a podium finish in third place, while Tayla Kavanagh set a course record of 31:39 in the women's race, overcoming a fall midway through the course. Karabo Mailulu of Boxer Athletics Club rounded out the podium, a full minute behind Khathala.
