Trump ‘border czar’ denies swift deportation of Milo Yiannopoulos was preferential treatment

Tom Homan, the White House "border czar," stated on Sunday that deporting British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos shortly after his arrest did not constitute preferential treatment. Homan explained that Yiannopoulos, 41, overstayed what he thought was a visitor visa, failed to appear for an immigration hearing, and received a final order of removal on July 22.

According to Homan, "He didn't show up. The judge ordered him deported. So, once ICE gets an order of deportation from a federal judge, their job is to execute that order, and that's what they did." He emphasized that Yiannopoulos received due process and was subsequently removed by ICE. Homan also mentioned that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is striving to expedite the deportation process, aiming to swiftly remove individuals once a judge orders their departure, regardless of their background.

The DHS had quickly announced Yiannopoulos's arrest at an airport in New Orleans, where he may have traveled to attend a concert by Kanye West, and confirmed his deportation to the UK one day after his arrest. Homan dismissed the notion that Yiannopoulos had received special treatment, stating that the administration is focused on deporting individuals in the country illegally.
