Serian registers ‘hazardous’ air quality as haze worsens

Serian, located in Sarawak, has recorded a hazardous air quality index (API) reading of 364 this morning, as haze continues to impact several regions across the country. The environment department reports that three additional areas in Sarawak - Samarahan, Kuching, and Sri Aman - have also registered very unhealthy air quality levels. Samarahan reported an API of 300, Kuching 291, and Sri Aman 214.

Sixteen other areas in Sarawak, including Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, Samalaju, Mukah, Kapit, and Miri, along with a location named ILP Miri, are experiencing unhealthy air quality. These areas have API readings ranging from 171 to 300. In addition to Sarawak, other locations reported in the country have unhealthy air quality, with eight areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, and Putrajaya also affected.

The remaining parts of Malaysia have reported moderate air quality, with no areas recording "good" air quality. An API score between zero and 50 signifies good air quality, 51 to 100 indicates moderate, 101 to 200 denotes unhealthy, 201 to 300 represents very unhealthy, and any reading above 300 is classified as hazardous.
