Russian Strike On Ukraine's Kyiv That Killed 37 Was 'Deadliest Attack Of War' This Year

A Russian drone attack on a warehouse west of Kyiv, which Ukrainian officials say was storing ammunition, killed 37 people and triggered fires that destroyed homes and buildings in the village of Myla, located in the Bucha district. The Friday night strike was the deadliest attack of the year so far and part of nearly constant Russian assaults on Kyiv and parts of Ukraine since Thursday.

The warehouse, in the Bucha district, was struck on the second of three consecutive days of intense Russian attacks. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the local regional military administration, said 34 victims were residents of a care home for elderly and disabled people. Over 370 people were evacuated. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating it appeared to be due to negligence in storing explosives near residential areas.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi noted that the tragedy in Kyiv earlier in the year had not been a lesson, warning that repeating the same mistakes was criminal negligence. Russian strikes killed two people and injured 27 more in Kherson region, including a child. The attack comes as Russia has increased its use of jet-powered drones, with Ukrainian officials noting that their effectiveness in defense remains unproven.

Ukraine plans to boost long-range strikes against Russian military industries and energy facilities to 1000 drone launches per day.
