Rare maxillary tumour removed from seven-year-old boy at government Dental Hospital in Chidambaram

A rare surgical procedure successfully removed a Giant Cell Granuloma, a tumour-like lesion, from the upper jaw of a seven-year-old boy at the Cuddalore Government Dental Hospital in Chidambaram. The family approached the medical facility due to the rapid enlargement of the swelling, accompanied by difficulties in breathing, eating, and tooth mobility.

After a thorough clinical examination and tests, doctors confirmed the diagnosis of a Giant Cell Granuloma affecting the maxilla. Due to the lesion's rapid growth and potential airway obstruction, an urgent surgical approach was required. The young patient's condition presented unique challenges, particularly the complexity of administering general anesthesia.

Despite these obstacles, the skilled anesthesia team ensured the child's safe anesthesia administration. A dedicated team of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons performed a complex four-hour surgical procedure, completely excising the tumour. Recognizing the rarity and severity of the condition, doctors emphasized the importance of prompt specialist evaluation for children exhibiting similar symptoms.
