PM: Malaysia sends SMART team to locate missing citizens in Nepal, commits US$1m aid

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 — Malaysia has dispatched its Special Malaysian Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) to Nepal to aid in search and rescue operations following devastating floods. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the National Security Council (MKN) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), along with the Foreign Ministry, are coordinating with the Nepalese government to deploy the team promptly.

The SMART team's mission includes locating and returning Malaysian citizens affected by the disaster, as well as supporting the Malaysian Embassy in Nepal. Anwar also revealed that Malaysia will provide US$1 million (RM4.03 million) in aid to help those impacted and support recovery efforts in Nepal. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that 55 Malaysians are still unaccounted for after the severe flash floods and landslides that hit Rasuwa district on August 26.
