NBC journalists attacked as settler violence continues across occupied West Bank

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denounced violence perpetrated by a "handful of rioters" among Israeli settlers in the West Bank villages of Qusra and Jalud. Speaking to reporters via X, Netanyahu strongly condemned the criminal acts of lawlessness, which he said were causing grave injustice to the peaceful Jewish community and harming Israel's global standing.

The latest attack in Qusra, near Nablus, involved masked settlers surrounding a Palestinian home, trapping seven people inside and beating them after they were handcuffed and blindfolded by Israeli soldiers who arrived on the scene. Homeowner Luay Bayruti recounted how soldiers forcibly entered his residence, searched the premises and subjected the occupants to a brutal assault.

A medic reported that tear gas was also fired into the home. The Israeli military stated that troops and border police were deployed to disperse the "rioters" and ensure the safety of the trapped residents. Netanyahu also condemned a prior settler siege on three Palestinian homes approximately a month ago, which trapped around 15 family members inside, causing international outrage and prompting a significant Israeli military deployment.

The besieged families reported ongoing settler harassment despite the heavy security presence. Israeli President Isaac Herzog described the recent violence as a "crossing of a red line," emphasizing it as yet another stain on Israel's reputation that requires decisive action. The government, security forces and judicial system must work together to root out this despicable behavior and bring the perpetrators to justice, Herzog added.

Netanyahu claimed that security forces swiftly confiscated three vehicles and brought the latest incident under control within a short timeframe. He ordered an intensive investigation and vowed to arrest those responsible, emphasizing that settler violence was the action of a "fringe minority." However, rights groups argue that settler attacks have been on the rise, paralleling settlement expansion, and claim that Israeli authorities are directly involved in some of these violent incidents.
