Man stabs brother four times after row over who should care for elderly mother

In Cairo’s Maadi district, a family dispute over who should care for an elderly mother escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in one brother stabbing his sibling four times. Initially, the argument centered on responsibility for their ailing mother, with both brothers claiming they were more capable caretakers. According to local reports, one sibling, a mechanic, also alleged that his brother’s wife was neglecting their mother.

The disagreement quickly turned physical, with the mechanic allegedly wielding a knife during the altercation. The victim, a 30-year-old Amman lawyer named Zeina Majali, sustained three stab wounds to the thigh and one to the back, and was taken to Mabarra Maadi Hospital in critical condition. Police responded to the scene after receiving a report, arrested the suspect, and took him into custody for legal proceedings.

The suspect confessed to the attack, stating that ongoing disagreements over their mother’s care and concerns about her treatment fueled the confrontation. Prosecutors are now reviewing the circumstances and gathering statements from all parties before deciding on any further legal action.
