Limpopo resort accused of exploitation after string of dismissals

Female employees at the Karibu Leisure Resort in Limpopo have accused resort bosses of exploitation and unfair dismissals, according to reports. The allegations emerged following a meeting at the resort attended by senior government officials and Limpopo's first female premier, Phophi Ramathuba. Former employee Moshireletsi Phaswana claimed she was not given a contract when hired as a cook and was subsequently terminated without a disciplinary hearing.

Phaswana said she worked long hours for little pay and was fired after feeling unwell. Another former employee spoke anonymously, alleging a male manager often gave them more work, forcing them to finish late, and made aggressive public comments towards them. When they reported this to senior managers, they said nothing came of the investigations.

Karibu Resort owner Nyeleti Mushwana denies the allegations, stating they have never received formal complaints about unfair labor practices. She claims four employees resigned since the resort opened, two due to medical reasons, and others left due to not wanting to work in hospitality. Mushwana says all employees signed permanent contracts and were registered.
