Krishna Byre Gowda directs GBA to take disciplinary action against officials over failure to address streetlight issue

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has ordered the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to take disciplinary action against officials responsible for the failure to maintain streetlights on a key road in central Bengaluru. The directive was issued after Gowda personally inspected the stretch between Hudson Circle and Chalukya Circle on August 28 and found that only 82 out of 222 streetlights were functioning.

The Minister pointed out that the road, a major route in the city center, is used by hundreds of vehicles every minute and connects to the Kempegowda Bus Station, the court complex, and the Chief Justice's residence. Despite two previous meetings with officials on the issue and specific instructions to ensure no maintenance lapses, a significant number of non-functional streetlights were discovered, indicating a failure in maintenance.

Gowda has now instructed GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao to take disciplinary action against the officials who did not follow the guidelines.
