Kong Haralds gravferd blir onsdag 9. september

Kong Harald's funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 9th. The ceremony will be led by church officials from the Norwegian Church, including Olav Fykse Tveit, Oslo Bishop Sunniva Gylver, Archbishop Marcus André Berg, and Oslo Cathedral and several others. The funeral will follow the funeral liturgy of the Norwegian Church, which includes prayers, hymns, biblical passages, and a sermon.

The king's casket will be transported from the Palace to Oslo Cathedral, where the funeral service will take place. Following the service, a procession will continue to Akershus Castle Church, where a private remembrance will be held. High-ranking guests from around the world are expected to attend. Already, the Danish royal couple have confirmed their attendance.

The king's funeral is meticulously planned, though many details remain to be announced. What we know is that it will likely follow the traditions of the funerals of King Harald's father, King Olav V, and his grandfather, King Haakon VII. The Royal Chapel opens on Tuesday, September 1st at 2pm for the public to pay their respects to King Harald.

Visitors will be able to view the casket until 6pm, seven days before the funeral. King Harald's coffin will likely also travel from the Palace to Oslo Cathedral through Karl Johans gate. Inside the coffin will be the family and other dignitaries. Only the casket will precede it. The coffin will carry family members and other high-ranking guests.

First, there will be a funeral ceremony at Oslo Cathedral, followed by the casket being transported to Akershus Fortress. There, the casket will be placed in a double sarcophagus made specifically for him and Queen Sonja. Like with King Olav's funeral, dignitaries and kings from 103 nations will attend. 1500 civil and uniformed police officers will provide security, according to the industry magazine Politiforum. Once again, guests from around the world will be in attendance.
