Kaduna will be home of sports In Nigeria – Commissioner

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State is committed to transforming Kaduna into Nigeria's premier sports destination. The Chief Press Secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa, announced that the Governor is working to rebuild Ahmadu Bello Stadium into a world-class sports facility. The revised stadium will feature a seating capacity of 32,000, making it the second largest after the national stadium in Abuja.

The Commissioner of Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, explained that the stadium will not only host events but also serve as a tourist attraction, drawing investment to the state. Maiyaki highlighted that some of Nigeria's greatest footballers began their careers at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, and the reconstruction project aims to preserve this rich history.

The project's second phase will include providing hotel accommodations for visiting sportspeople, with private investors already expressing interest. Maiyaki confidently stated that the stadium will be completed by December, bringing significant benefits to Kaduna, such as job creation, tourism, and economic growth. He credited the state's peace in the past three years for enabling this development, attributing it to Governor Sani's commitment.

The SWAN's 2026 National Triennial Congress, held in Kaduna, further demonstrated the city's peaceful and welcoming environment. The Commissioner praised Comrade Isaiah Benjamin for securing another term as National President of SWAN, describing the association as a vital partner in promoting sports in Kaduna. The delegation, which included senior government officials, visited the upgraded Uba Sani Township Stadium, which has a capacity of 10,000 and offers facilities for local league matches, dressing rooms, a referees' room, a media center, and conference facilities.

An ex-cycling champion who won eight medals for Kaduna State, Malam Samaila Usman, emphasized that the stadium will host local league matches. The SWAN President supported Governor Uba Sani's re-election, emphasizing that peace is essential for sports development, and pledged their support for his continued leadership.
