Jharkhand on high alert over swine flu

Ranchi, Jharkhand: The Health Ministry of Jharkhand has been activated to high alert due to potential H1N1 (Swine Flu) outbreaks, with Health Minister Irfan Ansari issuing stringent guidelines to bolster surveillance, testing, and hospital readiness. Ansari reassured the public not to panic, explaining that timely detection and appropriate medical care allow most patients to recover from the virus.

A high-level meeting convened on Saturday with senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar and medical college heads, to review the state's readiness and coordinate responses. District surveillance officers have been instructed to remain on constant watch, ensuring immediate reporting of any suspected cases.

The Health Department has fortified its systems, from early identification of potential patients to testing, treatment, and referral procedures. The minister pledged that no individual would be allowed to succumb to swine flu, emphasizing the commitment to protect lives.

Preventive measures involve reserving 10 extra beds in medical college hospitals, including RIMS in Ranchi, and all district hospitals. Authorities are ensuring sufficient oxygen supplies, essential medications, diagnostic tools, and ICU/HDU readiness, along with well-trained medical staff.

Intensified monitoring of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases is also underway to enable early detection and swift medical action. Enhanced surveillance at key transit hubs like airports, train stations, and bus stops will include clinical assessments of symptomatic individuals and prompt testing and care.

Jharkhand's government is fully dedicated to safeguarding public health, with all Health Department units kept on alert and the situation under continuous monitoring. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant, take preventive steps, and seek timely medical advice should symptoms arise.
