Javed Miandad, Moin Khan and Basit Ali Call for Court-Ordered Medical Treatment of Imran Khan

Former cricket stars Javed Miandad, Moin Khan and Basit Ali have called for the government to ensure that former Pakistan captain Imran Khan receives proper medical treatment while he is in jail. Their plea adds to mounting international pressure over the health care provided to Pakistan's 1992 World Cup-winning leader. Australian cricketer Pat Cummins was the first active captain to publicly back the calls, stating he hopes the court-ordered medical assessment can continue.

He also advocated for continued family visits and respect for Imran's dignity. Earlier this month, 22 former cricket captains from around the world had written to Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging him to provide Imran with the medical care he needs. Moin Khan, a former teammate of Imran, urged other cricketers to speak out about the issue, emphasizing that access to proper medical treatment is a fundamental right.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Javed Miandad made an emotional plea, questioning why Imran remains incarcerated and defending his former captain's character. Basit Ali also joined the calls for authorities to provide the jailed captain with the appropriate medical care. The Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed authorities to transfer Imran from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for a multidisciplinary medical examination.

However, Imran was instead taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where a government medical panel declared him medically fit before he was returned to Adiala Jail. Imran's family has challenged the government's handling of the situation, arguing that he has not received the appropriate treatment. The Pakistani government has denied allegations of mistreatment, stating that Imran has received medical attention and regular access to visitors while serving his sentence.
