Jackson Chourio and William Contreras homer early in Brewers’ 5-3 victory over Rangers

Jackson Chourio and William Contreras each hit a home run in the first inning, propelling the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. The Brewers secured their fourth consecutive win in the MLB, handing the Rangers their fourth straight defeat. Texas found themselves two games behind AL West leaders Houston, who lost to the Mets earlier in the day.

Brandon Nimmo contributed a two-run homer for the Rangers, while Cody Freeman added a solo shot. Rangers pitcher Cal Quantrill faced the first four batters of the game and allowed two home runs. Chourio, who has hit 20 home runs so far this season, connected on a 20th homer of the year off a 2-2 pitch. Quantrill narrowly escaped a potential no-hitter before Contreras blasted a 409-foot shot to left field.

Milwaukee's Luis Lara provided relevant RBI singles in the second and seventh innings. Texas staged a rally to make the game tied 5-5 in the eighth inning. Corey Seager drew a leadoff walk and scored on Nimmo's 426-foot homer. Ezequiel Duran and Jake Burger grounded out, while Trevor Megill recorded the ninth save in 27 attempts for the Brewers.

Texas starter Quantrill retired the final 14 batters he faced, striking out eight. Milwaukee's Shane Drohan struck out six in five innings, allowing only Freeman's fifth-inning homer as his lone run. Freeman's baserunning mistake in the third inning cost the Rangers a potential scoring opportunity.
