Illegal late-night McDonald's construction caught on video

Brisbane residents have complained about noise from a McDonald's construction site that operates around the clock, with work starting as early as 4am. The city council claims to have not authorized such early construction. Footage obtained by 612 ABC Brisbane shows workers unloading steel at the site past midnight. Brisbane City Council spokesperson stated that out-of-hours work requires proper approvals, and there is no approval for work at this site at 4am.

Store Tec, the construction company, had received out-of-hours construction approval from the council, but only between 9pm and 2am on certain nights. The McDonald's spokesperson said they are investigating the matter. Residents in West End have been repeatedly woken up by the noise from construction activities, including the unloading of trucks, crane operations, and shouting.

West End resident TJ said they are woken up almost every night beyond the permitted five nights. Danvre Clements also reported being kept awake by the sound of heavy machinery for months. The residents feel the developers are disregarding council regulations and rules. The West End McDonald's is set to open in late 2026.
