‘I was arrogant’: Namitha reflects on sudden fame and industry warnings

Actress Namitha has opened up about her past arrogance and the warnings she received from industry colleagues, in an interview with Touring Talkies. She revealed that she carried a sense of thalai kannam, a Tamil term for conceit often associated with sudden fame. Namitha acknowledged that during her first two years in the industry, her early success and constant media attention made her believe she was entitled, which she now recognizes as damaging.

Colleagues advised her to change her attitude to avoid a career-ending disaster. Her behavior may have caused distress to those around her, including co-stars, technicians, and junior crew members. Namitha's career reached its peak between 2004 and 2009, with a cult following in Tamil Nadu, including roles in films like Billa with Prabhas.

However, her career declined in the early 2010s as the South Indian film industry moved away from casting women in purely glamorous roles. She briefly returned to public attention in 2017 after participating in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1 and has since focused on her political career and family life.
