GIS removes 1,055 migrant street beggars from Accra and Kumasi

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully removed 1,055 migrant street beggars from the streets of Accra and Kumasi, as part of a large-scale operation to identify and deal with undocumented foreign nationals. This initiative was launched following a directive from the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, aimed at addressing the issue of undocumented migrants and street beggars in major cities.

The GIS emphasized that this operation also sought to tackle concerns of street begging and human trafficking, especially in densely populated urban areas like Accra and Kumasi. The migrants who were found to be in Ghana without valid documentation are currently being processed for repatriation back to their home countries. This operation is a significant part of the broader efforts by the Ghana Immigration Service to enforce immigration laws and ensure that all foreign nationals residing in Ghana possess the necessary documentation.
