Germany retains Hockey World Cup title; equals Pakistan’s record of most titles

After defeating Spain 1-0 to retain the Hockey World Cup title, defending champions Germany joined Pakistan as the most successful team in the history of Men's FIH Hockey World Cups, with four titles to their name. Spain had double the circle entries, almost double the number of shots, and more penalty corner chances, but Germany capitalized on their only viable chance and Michel Struthoff scored a memorable goal to secure the win.

This is the fourth title for Germany, tying them with Pakistan's record. The German team showed resilience after their loss to India in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, winning two World titles, an Olympic silver, and an European title. Coach Andre Hanning achieved his fourth major title with this victory. Germany's defense held strong against Spain's attacking efforts, particularly in the third quarter when Spain played fluid and fluid hockey. The German team's co-ordination in the 44th minute led to Michel Struthoff's decisive goal.
