Free State education calls for input on BELA Act draft regulations

The Free State Department of Education is calling for public input on proposed regulations related to the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Act. Although the BELA Act is already in effect, the draft regulations have not yet been finalized. These drafts aim to clarify and provide practical guidance on several key issues, including the election of School Governing Bodies, unauthorized remuneration or financial benefits for educators, Teacher Development Institutes and Centres, and the National Education Information System.

The department has invited various stakeholders, such as schools, School Management Teams, School Governing Bodies, educators, officials, parents, learners, organized labor, education organizations, civil society groups, and other interested parties, to carefully examine the proposed regulations and provide feedback on their practicality, potential implementation challenges, resource requirements, governance implications, and any unintended consequences that may arise.
