Four persons in Ambur held for selling baby

On Sunday, Ambur Town police in Tirupattur arrested four individuals for allegedly selling a nine-day-old baby boy to a couple in Bengaluru for ₹1 lakh. The suspects were identified as Rahmatullah, 42, R. Aushma, 37, and Bengaluru residents Shameen Taj, 30, and Syed Akbar Basha, 35. According to the police, Rahmatullah and Aushma were married and had been living in Ambur for several years.

Aushma gave birth to a male child at Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore on August 14. Due to her husband's unemployment, Aushma believed the couple could not afford to care for their existing four children. It was alleged that brokers, who were on the run, became aware of her predicament and struck a deal with the Bengaluru couple to purchase the newborn.

Rahmatullah was also believed to be aware of the arrangement, and Aushma allegedly sold the baby to the Bengaluru couple. Hospital staff sought to perform a check-up on the newborn, but the couple refused to bring the child to the government facility, prompting authorities to notify the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Tirupattur.

Following a complaint, the Ambur Town police registered a case, and the Bengaluru couple was located, leading to the rescue of the child. An investigation is currently underway.
