Formal BN-PH talks expected to begin after Melaka assembly dissolved

Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) negotiations are anticipated to commence following the dissolution of the Melaka state assembly. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, chairman of BN, disclosed earlier that informal discussions were the sole interactions between the two coalitions. The formal deliberations are set to commence post the assembly's dissolution, with Ab Rauf Yusoh, the BN chief and menteri besar of Melaka, tasked with concluding the matter.

Zahid admitted to holding discussions with the entire Melaka Umno political bureau and mentioned that the issue was brought to the Supreme Council.

PH election director Amirudin Shari expressed his expectation for formal talks to commence post Ab Rauf's initiation. Amirudin had interacted with Ab Rauf, but the BN chief demanded a wait for policy decisions from Umno and BN's central leadership before proceeding further. Initially, BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) had agreed to continue their alliance in the Melaka polls after their victory in Negeri Sembilan elections.

However, this arrangement appeared to have failed when BN decided to contest all 21 seats they previously won in the last Melaka election, whereas PN insisted on further negotiations. Melaka is a state with 28 seats, and the BN had won 21 in the 2021 state elections, out of which they formed the government. The state government's tenure is set to conclude on 31st December.
