Feroz Khan back in hospital days before Madlanga Commission appearance

Major-General Feroz Khan has been readmitted to a Johannesburg hospital, just days before he is set to appear before the Madlanga Commission. The suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head is reportedly back in the hospital nearly two months after he sustained serious injuries from a shooting in Houghton, as reported by the SABC. Khan was shot on June 28 and has spent time in the hospital recovering.

His latest hospitalization coincides with his subpoena to testify before the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating allegations of criminality, corruption, and political interference in South Africa's criminal justice system.

Khan was also recently served with an additional Rule 3 notice to respond to more questions from the commission. The commission has already heard evidence concerning Khan in his absence, as he was unable to testify following the shooting. He is considered a key figure in the inquiry, with allegations against him ranging from corruption to tender fraud and leaking of state information.

Khan has not had the chance to answer the evidence presented by the commission in person, prompting significant attention to his planned appearance.

While Khan's health and potential testimony before the commission continue to be under scrutiny, his future within the police service is also uncertain. Khan has taken the South African Police Service (SAPS) to the Labour Court to contest an internal disciplinary process that recommended his dismissal. The disciplinary proceedings were reportedly completed while Khan was dealing with his medical issues and unable to attend. His lawyer disputes Khan's dismissal and is challenging the process in court.
