DMT reopens key E20 interchange in time for school year

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has confirmed that the interchange linking Khalifa City and Zayed City via the E20 highway has reopened just in time for the upcoming school year. This development brings the total number of lanes on selected sections of the highway to five, allowing for increased traffic flow in both directions.

The expansion project has been ongoing for some time, with works on the western segment nearing completion. The eastern part of the E20 will also see enhancements, including a new interchange and extra lanes, set to open in the first quarter of 2027. The broader project aims to boost the highway's capacity from three lanes to five in both directions, along with the construction of two new bridges and 10.5 kilometers of new ramps and loops.

Additional safety measures include 1.5 kilometers of internal roads and eight traffic light junctions in Khalifa City and surrounding areas.
