Dengue Risk Emerges at PIMS as Mosquito Larvae Found in Stagnant Water

A potential dengue threat has emerged at the PIMS Hospital's Maternal and Child Health facility after mosquito larvae and adult mosquitoes were discovered in stagnant water on the premises. These insects were found in standing water around the MCH area, leading to concerns for pregnant women and their attendants who frequently wait in the same area for medical check-ups.

District Entomologist Qasim Sajra warns that current weather conditions are highly conducive to the spread of dengue. So far this year, Islamabad has reported four dengue cases, with two originating from Rawalpindi. In August 2025, the city recorded 197 dengue cases, compared to 40 cases in the same month last year. Sajra notes that Islamabad's dengue threat persists due to the ongoing monsoon season, as rainwater can collect in various areas, providing mosquito breeding grounds.

The presence of mosquito larvae inside the PIMS MCH facility has raised fresh concerns about potential dengue transmission among patients, attendants, and hospital staff.
