Democracy Cup: Ghana Sports Fund Administrator sees new hope for sports sector

Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, the Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, perceives a promising outlook for the nation's sports industry following a gradual resurgence of sporting activities. He highlighted this optimism during the 2026 Democracy Cup event in Kumasi, where sports enthusiasts and stakeholders convened to honor the bond between sports and Ghana's democratic growth.

Dr. Wuaku emphasized that the rising enthusiasm for sports offers a golden opportunity for individuals from varied backgrounds to actively participate in and make significant contributions to the sector. However, he stressed that this upward trend must be backed by robust leadership, dedication, and efficient management from all stakeholders involved.

He pointed out that sports are experiencing a revival, which presents a chance for people to earn their place in the sector through leadership and meaningful engagement. The Ghana Sports Fund Administrator also noted the immense potential of the sports industry to generate employment and other opportunities for young people and professionals if it receives adequate backing and investment.

Dr. Wuaku urged for a united effort to establish a sustainable sports industry that can foster Ghanaian talent and create economic opportunities. To achieve this, he stressed the necessity of deliberate investments, effective administration, and innovative financing strategies to spur the industry's expansion. The Ghana Sports Fund, created under Act 1159, is tasked with rallying and managing resources for sports development in Ghana.
