Defence sec-gen takes first flight in Su-30MKM ahead of National Day flypast

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali experienced his first flight in a Royal Malaysian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30MKM fighter jet ahead of the National Day flypast. The experience provided Lokman with a firsthand view of the fighter's capabilities, as well as the skills and professionalism of the personnel involved.

Speaking at a rehearsal for the flypast at Subang air base, Lokman highlighted the importance of the Su-30MKM in protecting the country's airspace and maritime interests. He emphasized that maintaining the readiness of such assets was a strategic necessity, but readiness also depended on pilots' ability to understand and utilize the aircraft's capabilities.

Regular exercises involving aircraft from different generations, such as Exercise Elangaroo 24, have helped enhance interoperability and understanding of various platforms. The Su-30MKM's effectiveness is not solely dependent on its technology, but also on the skills, experience, and tactical judgment of its pilots, as well as the support ecosystem comprising mechanical, electrical, structural, and system engineers, technicians, and support staff.
