Danang and Laos seek deeper cooperation in semiconductors AI and digital technology

Two delegations from Vietnam and Laos, led by Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Quoc Phuong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Santiphat Phomviharn, met to explore deeper cooperation in technology sectors. The visit took place during the Mid-term Conference of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee for 2026 and the 19th meeting of the Steering Committee for the Cooperation Programme.

Vietnam shared its experience in digital transformation, particularly Danang's development, with Lao officials. Danang, known for its strengths beyond technology, is actively working on its semiconductor and AI center. The Lao delegation showed interest in understanding the practical steps involved in building Danang's technology ecosystem, from conception to implementation and its commercialization.

Danang's digital government journey began in 2006, with the digital transformation center established in 2008. The city's early start in digital transformation has allowed it to build on accumulated capabilities over time. A key principle in Danang's digital transformation is "one platform, multiple partners," which helps minimize duplication, ensure continuity, and enable multiple partners to contribute to its development.

The Vietnamese finance minister welcomed the Lao delegation's visit and expressed confidence that it would lead to new cooperation opportunities between Danang and Laos, strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two nations. Danang plans to attract 10-15 Lao businesses with a combined investment of approximately $300-500 million by 2030, and foster business-matching programmes, investment promotion activities, and technology transfer initiatives.
