Chiefs make another trade amid potential concern about Josh Simmons before start of NFL season

The Kansas City Chiefs recently acquired OT Diego Pounds from the Baltimore Ravens, following their recent acquisition of OL Josh Ezeudu from the New York Giants. The team is aiming to bolster their offensive line as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season. Following the Ezeudu trade, the Chiefs have now traded a conditional sixth-round pick for undrafted OT Pounds. However, this move could be indicative of an internal problem within the organization.

Andy Reid, the Chiefs' head coach, revealed that first-round pick Josh Simmons, their likely starting tackle, is still dealing with pain issues that may affect his playing status. Reid emphasized that it will take time to address Simmons' pain and ensure he has the necessary strength to play. Pounds is expected to serve as a direct depth addition behind Simmons, with the Chiefs hoping either Simmons or Pounds will be a crucial presence on the offensive line to protect Patrick Mahomes, who is recovering from a torn ACL.

While Ezeudu may not be a direct backup for Simmons, he can play multiple positions on the offensive line and provides much-needed depth for the Chiefs' historically weak offensive line. Both Pounds and Ezeudu are low-cost acquisitions with significant upside, particularly for Pounds, who has already proven his strength and potential during preseason.

The Chiefs, who were not considered top contenders for the Super Bowl last season despite their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes' return, now find themselves with more questions than answers. Their weak offensive line is one of the major concerns they must address. However, if the recent signings and trades prove successful and Mahomes can return to his original form as a star quarterback, the Chiefs could become a formidable force in the league.
