Canada’s Leylah Fernandez tops Zhang to advance to second round of U.S. Open

New York - Canada's Leylah Fernandez advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open after defeating China's Shuai Zhang 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday. The Laval, Que., native showcased her skills with four aces, three break points converted, and successfully saving all seven of Zhang's break-point chances. Zhang, on the other hand, did not record an ace and had one double fault during the match. Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., was set to face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic later that day.
