(Picture Bernama) PUTRAJAYA: After nearly five days of waiting with great anxiety, the family of N Kalaiselvi, reported missing in the sudden flash floods and landslides in Nepal, pleaded for the government to bring back the victims no matter what conditions they are in.

Her son, Kritikaa Joyce De Brito, said they appreciate the Malaysian government's commitment to the search and rescue mission, but acknowledge their hope dwindles as the victims are trapped in the disaster area for too long. "Even if found, they might be buried in the forest or under the thick mud ... the chances of survival are very slim," she said after attending the closed-door victim's compensation hearing at Putra Palace.

"Therefore, our request is that they be brought back, regardless of their condition, whether alive or not, we hope they will be returned to us in Malaysia." Kalaiselvi, 65, was among the 27 Malaysians who went to Mount Kailash in Tibet for religious rituals through a local tour agency, before being reported missing in the tragedy in Rasuwa district on Wednesday.

At the briefing, all the attending family members reached an agreement to have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs forward any official documents and accurate information to the nearest next of kin continuously. This step aims to prevent the spread of speculation or false information to the public that could disturb the emotional state of the victim's family.

"For now, the ministry is very careful about what it releases to the public, and we understand this because we want to prevent any speculation," she said. Earlier, Putra Palace confirmed that 72 Malaysians were safe in Darchen, China, receiving consular assistance, while 55 others in Nepal were still unaccounted for.
