Allow NNPCL to fix Nigeria’s refineries, Mohammed tells lawmaker Ugochinyere

Mustapha Mohammed, a public affairs analyst, has advised the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Ikenga Ugochinyere, to permit the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to rectify the Port Harcourt and other state-owned refineries. This recommendation was made in a statement released on Sunday.

It is worth noting that Ugochinyere had previously declared his intention to utilize parliamentary powers to question NNPCL's Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and Executive Vice President regarding matters concerning the refurbishment of the state-owned refineries.

In response, Mohammed implored the lawmaker to refrain from politicizing the restoration of the country’s refineries. He urged Ugochinyere and his supporters to allow the refineries to be repaired, emphasizing that the NNPCL is executing a deliberate Federal Government policy to rejuvenate the refineries. He stressed that there has been no violation of any legislation by the National Assembly or any of its committees.

Mohammed further contended that "accusing the NNPCL of withholding information on the refurbishment of Nigeria’s refineries is a backdoor tactic by the same agents utilizing cheap tricks to imply that the government is not taking any action." He suggested that the government’s refinery restoration initiative should be evaluated based on its advancement and ultimate results rather than political discourse.
